Is your trouting toolbox well-stocked? Does it hold a lot of “tools” like dry/dropper, indicator rigs, streamer stripping, and even a basic Euro game? Savvy anglers are versatile, and will match their “tool” (technique) to the water conditions faced that day.
And if you haven’t tried Euro yet, here’s a nice 15-minute video on why you should add that tool to your box. It’s a great mix of friendly talk and some fat, red rainbow trout.
Pay very close attention to reason #4. I watch many trout anglers fish “over” their targets - and not truly understand stream bottom structure and its fishy niches.
So add that Euro tool to your own toolbox this fall. Start slowly and affordable by just rigging a euro leader and a tungsten-beaded bug to a rod you already own. Pick your longest, lightest fly rod, even if it’s a 9-foot, 5-weight.

Then, if you like the technique, go “fishing” for a specialty Euro rod. Hmm, it might just be a nice item on your holiday wish list!

I do like the Euro tool, especially when winter water dips below 50 degrees, fish glue themselves to the bottom, and I have to hit them in the nose with my tungsten nymph. Euro has saved many a winter day for me on the Chattooga and Nan.
Try it. It’s actually very easy. You just might like this Euro tool in your trouting toolbox, too. Stop by or call either of our stores if we can help you get into the Euro game.
