Bert's Big Adventure

UO Staff hosted Waycross flatlander Bert Deener for a brief change of scenery.  Bert, an Okeefenokee, Altamaha, and Ossabaw expert from bowfin to tarpon, first grabbed a blueline rod and chased little wild rainbows at the top of the mountain.

The next morning he changed to a stout 8-weight rig and enticed a few Nacoochee Bend stripers for a photo opp. White County got a big thumbs-up from this South Georgia fishing expert and lure maker.

We believe he'll be back up here soon!

Shoalie Science

We are honored and grateful to be working closely with the Shoal Bass Genetics Project that is currently going on. If you are fortunate enough to catch a tagged fish, it is important to handle these fish with care, and to relay the information to GA DNR to help build a database for this valuable resource.

GA TU Trout Camp

It’s always our pleasure to offer a fishing opportunity to TU’s Trout Camp. Even after a night of rain, looks like they had a good day.

Consolation Prize, Indeed!

He started the evening throwing an 8 wt. for gar with no success. As expected, he dredged the bottom for this whopper at the end of the day. Was all he could handle on that 8 wt. rod.

Two Toothy Grins

We get to fish for some really cool species this time of year when they run up the river out of Lake Lanier to spawn. Connected with 6 yesterday evening but only able to land this male. The big girls (over 4' long) were difficult to get to eat. When they did, it was game on, jumping like tarpon and throwing the fly. Sorry I didn't get a video of that.

The Downstream Sprint

It took a long tug-of-war in the stadium pool and then a hundred-yard downstream sprint on slippery cobbles, but our buddy "Sautee" kept his feet and corraled his first-ever river striper on the fly!

Hot Bassin'

River Bassin' is really hot right now. Yesterday, we landed 6 fish over 18 inches! That's incredible!!! Give us a call to get in on the action.

Unintended Target

After volunteering with Casting for Recovery yesterday, Robert Rivers joined us at Nacoochee Bend to see if he could hook up with a striper. All he got was this lousy 26.5" (taped) rainbow!!!

First One on the Fly!

Always a big smile when you get your first fish on the fly rod!
